February 5

Our speaker for the 2/5/25 meeting was Dr. Stephen Frech, Educational Leader at Unity Christian School (formerly LSA) here in Decatur. He spoke about the 3rd grade reading proficiencies and Unity Christian tutoring program since Fall 2023 and middle school tutoring since Spring 2024.

February 12

Our speaker for the 2/12/25 meeting was Clyde Chapman who talked about Foster Care and his Foster Care Family.

February 19

Our speakers for the 2/18/25 meeting were Jamila Wicks, Executive Director of the Illinois State Museum and Amanda Bryden, Registrar of the museum. They spoke about the Illinois State Museum and the Rt 66 celebration.

February 26

Our speaker for the 2/26/25 meeting was Laura Cullison, Community Relations Coordinator Evergreen Senior Living. She spoke about their program specifically prioritizing individuals with memory loss.

March 5

Our speakers for the 3/5/25 meeting were Lelah Ray, Director of Social Services Salvation Army who talked about some of the services the Salvation Army provides, Shae Campbell who spoke on the food pantry and Andrea Lewin, case manager for the Pathway of Hope program

March 12th

Our speaker for the 3/12/25 meeting was Andrew Taylor, Economic Development Officer for Decatur & Macon County, has worked to provide existing and potential area businesses with the information they need to grow and prosper.

March 19

Our speaker for the 3/19/25 meeting was Denise Myers, retired Professor, School of Theatre & Dance at Millikin University. She is the producer and director of our Children’s Play “Everybody Rock, Rocks, Rocks. Shows are Sat. Mar. 29 at 10:00 am and Sun. Mar. 30 at 2:00 pm.

March 26

Mark Sorensen, Illinois Historian returns to make another of several presentations to the Golden K Kiwanis club. He is an educator and historian residing in Decatur. His credentials as a historian range from being president of the Illinois State Historical Society to researching a multitude of historical events in and around Decatur, Illinois. His presentation this time is about “THE WIZARD of OZ in ILLINOIS and BEYOND.”

April 2

Our speaker for the 4/2/25 meeting was Robert Weil, Water Production Manager of City of Decatur. He spoke about how they are dealing with a middle-aged water treatment plant.

April 8

Our speaker for the 4/8/25 meeting was Shyler Kraus, Marketing & Development Manager Heartland CASA. She spoke about the vision for CASA and the needs for the children.

April 16

Our speaker for the 4/16/25 meeting was Regan Deering, Representative IL 88th District. She spoke about her experiences in state government.

April 23

Our speaker for the April 23, 2025 meeting was Mark Tupper, Retired Executive Sports Editor Herald-Review for 44 years. He spoke about experiences from the 2005 season and highlighted personal anecdotes and extensive discussion on the changing landscape of college athletics.
